Our company was founded in 1916 by Ike Knudsen, a marine engineer who studied in Copenhagen, Denmark, and John Lawson, a machinist with 20 years of experience at Superior Shipyard Company.
Northern Engineering is on an upward trajectory. Our skilled tradespeople receive continuous training and the shop is continually adding new state-of-the-art equipment.
Our commitment to quality workmanship and outstanding customer service has never wavered.
Continued Investment
Since 2010, along with completing an 8,000 square foot addition, we’ve added:
- a new CNC lathe,
- a new CNC mill,
- a Flow Waterjet,
- assorted precision measuring tools,
- SolidWorks 3D modeling software,
- and a wide variety of mobile machining equipment to its capabilities.
To ensure our team members have the expertise to respond to customer challenges, we’ve invested heavily in vibration analysis software, safety and technical training, and OEM factory training.
The significant growth that we are experiencing as we enter our second century can be attributed to our laser-focused commitment to meet the needs of both maritime and industrial companies.
In our most recent fiscal year, we’ve invested more than $1 million in new equipment and training services.
